Blueleaf Energy continues to fulfill its commitment to clean renewable energy across Asia. We have completed the construction and reached energisation of the company’s first corporate PPA rooftop solar power plant in Penang Malaysia, providing clean energy to the automotive electronics plant of Robert Bosch (M) Sdn Bhd (Bosch).

Bosch’s new 3MWp power facility has installed 7,500 solar panels on 24,500 m2 of rooftop space which is equivalent to 3.5 FIFA standard football fields, making it one of the largest rooftop photovoltaic system in Malaysia.

The plant is provided on a self-consumption basis with the opportunity for Bosch to sell excess generated energy back to the grid under Malaysia’s NEM (Net Energy Metering) scheme. The plant is to date, the largest solar system in Penang under such scheme.

Despite the unprecedented impact of COVID-19, the project was still completed in a timely manner and to the highest safety and quality standards.

Dr. Siegfried Skirl, Bosch’s Automotive Electronics Plant Technical Managing Director in Malaysia, said: “Bosch has been taking progressive actions towards carbon neutrality. We continue to push ahead with the installation of the photovoltaic system in Malaysia due to its high solar irradiance throughout the year. We are pleased to achieve this milestone in our climate action despite the lockdowns, travel restrictions and several unprecedented challenges brought on by the pandemic.”

Sol Proops, Interim CEO of Blueleaf Energy, said: “We are pleased to collaborate with Bosch in supporting its long-term commitment in reducing carbon footprint. Further to our recent entrance into the India solar market, Blueleaf is excited to contribute to Malaysia’s green energy transition and continue to play a role as we see growing corporate interest in renewable energy. We look forward to opportunities to partner with other environmentally focussed customers and contribute to their green ambitions.”
