Blueleaf Energy’s mission is to develop, deliver and operate safe, high quality, ethical renewable energy projects, delivering a greener energy mix and lower power bills. We specialize in the development, finance, construction and operation of renewable energy & storage assets across Asia Pacific.
With over 20 years of history, we have developed, built and operated approximately 2 GW of solar capacity globally, including over 500 MW in the Asia Pacific region.
Blueleaf Energy is a portfolio company of Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG), operating on a standalone basis.

Meet the team

Raghuram Natarajan

Raghuram Natarajan

Raghuram (Ram) was appointed as CEO of Blueleaf Energy in July 2021.
Based in Singapore, Mr Natarajan will spearhead Blueleaf’s expansion plans in the Asia-Pacific region and lead its rapidly growing team. Mr Natarajan brings 15 years of senior leadership experience in wind, solar and battery storage solutions across the Asia-Pacific region. In his previous positions as APAC CEO with Juwi and Mainstream Renewable Power, Mr Natarajan managed the development of over 5 GW of renewable energy projects and delivered close to 2 GW of solar and wind projects into commercial operation and long-term asset management.

Roy Tang

Roy was appointed as Chief Financial Officer in September 2020, having joined from Asia Power Development Platform as its CFO, which also pursued renewable energy development within the ASEAN market. Prior to his foray into renewable energy development, he held various senior Finance appointments in investment banking, wholesale and institutional banking.
In addition to the 3 years in renewable energy, Roy has over 20 years of experience in banking and finance, supporting debt capital markets, corporate finance, treasury and institutional sales.

Phyllis was appointed as the HR Director with Blueleaf Energy in February 2019. A dedicated HR business partner with a demonstrated history of working in the logistics and supply chain industry with Bollore Logistics where she held the position of HR Director for South East Asia. With Blueleaf Energy, her idealism is to play her part in contributing back to the world, making the world a more sustainable place for our children to live in.
Phyllis’ experience has grown from operational to strategic HR over the last 20 years in her career. A genuine HR influencer who supports senior business leaders and engages stakeholders with an appreciation that people is every organisation’s greatest asset and culture is every organisation’s greatest enabler.

Julie Lee

Julie is the Investment Director in Blueleaf Energy Taiwan.
Julie is a senior energy finance and investment professional who brings 13 years of hands-on experience in originating, evaluating, executing, and managing project finance debt and sponsor equity investment across a wide variety of power, renewable, and infrastructure real assets in North and Latin Americas at well-known financial institutions, including Macquarie Capital, ABN AMRO, and BNP Paribas.
Prior to joining Blueleaf Energy, Julie oversaw over US$400 million of development and construction equity commitment at Macquarie Capital, established ABN AMRO’s power and renewable project finance and client coverage business in North America, and managed approximately US$1 billion of project finance portfolio and tax equity investment at BNP Paribas.

Chris Chua

Chris was appointed as an Investment Director of Blueleaf Energy Philippines in February 2022.
Chris has over 15 years of experience in the power industry, focused in project and deal origination, M&As as well as commercial and asset management across various thermal and renewables investments in Southeast Asia.
Prior to joining Blueleaf Energy, Chris was part of two pioneer groups which established Meralco Powergen Corporation (MGen) and UPC Renewables Asia. He has spent over 11 years with MGen where he headed the Business Development – Domestic Markets Team of MGreen, a renewable energy platform of MGen/Global Business Power, that has over 1GW of pipeline projects in development. In MGen, he oversaw the acquisition of an 800MW LNG plant based in Singapore and headed the development of a 1.2GW Ultra Super-Critical power plant project in the Philippines, bringing it from early development stage to shovel-ready status within 3 years.

Pratyush Thakur

Pratyush will be appointed as the Country Director, India in April 2021, joining from Macquarie Capital where he led renewables development activities in India. Prior to this, he held leadership positions in solar business and energy trading.
Pratyush’s career spans for more than 15 years, which includes experience in range of activities including project finance, business and project development, energy markets, engineering, and risk management.

Arnaud Ayral

Arnaud Ayral is the Corporate Solutions Director of Blueleaf Energy and based in Singapore,
Arnaud will lead the company’s growth in renewable energy solutions aimed at corporate customers, leveraging the strong track record and capabilities of the Group in solar PV, wind and energy storage.
Arnaud previously was Business Development Director at Cleantech Solar, the Shell-owned solar PV developer where he helped build in South-East Asia a strong track record for the company of commercial and industrial projects across the region. Prior to that, he worked in Australia, UK, the Netherlands and the Middle-East where he held various positions with Rolls-Royce plc, including most recently that of Senior Vice-President of the Marine Services division in Asia Pacific.
Arnaud had previously also worked at Electricite de France (EDF). Arnaud holds a B&A Master’s degree from Normandy Business School and most recently attended the Tuck 2030 Leadership programme at Dartmouth College.

Le Huy Thanh is the Chairman of Blueleaf Energy Vietnam. Le Huy Thanh has over 25 years of experience working in the oil and gas industry in various fields in all aspects of upstream, midstream and downstream including sales, marketing, operation of LPG plant, commercial, business development, public and government affairs, representative office.
Prior to joining Blueleaf Energy, Thanh was the Public and Government Affairs Manager and Chief Representative of ExxonMobil in Vietnam. Other positions he has held include Chief Representative of the British Petroleum Company (BP) in Vietnam, Commercial Manager for BP’s New Projects in the country.

Johnson Varghese is Wind Development Director and he is responsible for providing technical and commercial expertise into wind opportunities across Blueleaf Energy's business in the Asia Pacific region.
Most recently Johnson was EVP of New Business Development at Siemens Gamesa in India where he undertook a rationalisation of Siemens Gamesa’s wind and solar development portfolio during the restructuring review of that business. Prior to that he spent time in Sembcorp Singapore (VP Project Development), Vestas (Director Global Development), Kshema and 4 years in SunEdison (MD Wind and Solar Operations). Before that he spent 14 years with Vestas in operations and maintenance, development, engineering and construction of wind farms across India.

Steffen Hesche was appointed as VP Asset Management when Blueleaf Energy launched in 2019.
Prior to this, Steffen was Head of the Conergy business unit “Operations and Maintenance” and Managing Director for Conergy India.
Steffen has over 20 years of experience in various management positions in the solar, semiconductor, glass and pharmaceutical industry.

James Thomas

James Thomas joins as Technical Director in February 2021 with overall responsibility for engineering, construction and supply chain across Asia. With a career with large and well known companies around the globe, James is a Chartered Engineer, Member of Institution of Mechanical Engineers and holds a Master of Science in Project Management. James has led major projects as well as large engineering and construction teams in nuclear, gas turbine, thermal and solar power generation sectors, as well as providing services as founder of his own consulting business. He has worked on projects and developments in UK, China, Philippines, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Thailand and others. Reporting to the CEO, James will lead all technical activity for Blueleaf Energy across Asia.

Viktor Dancza was appointed Engineering Director in February 2021. Viktor experience spans his native Hungary, Australia, UK and for the last 3 years has been based in Singapore as the Engineering Manager, working on the development of solar projects across the whole Asia region. Viktor has joined us to lead the Blueleaf Engineering Team, reporting to James Thomas, and will ensure we continue to deliver and grow the excellent in-house capacity of assessing developer designs, evaluating project sites and providing engineering input into our transactions.

Tobias Kullack

Tobias Kullack was appointed Project Director in February 2021. Tobias is experienced in the development and implementation of solar, hybrid and wind projects, spending the last years helping project management teams to grow and successfully implement and operate several renewable energy projects across the Asia Pacific Region. Major achievements have been the development and implementation of several large-scale power plants in the Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia. Reporting to James Thomas, Tobias will lead the in-house Blueleaf Energy project delivery team and will ensure contribution to the development of projects, both C&I and utility scale, and lead the team for successful project implementation.

Des Yeo was appointed as the Workplace Health Safety and Environment (WHSE) Director in November 2019. Prior to this, Des was working with the Altrad Group, a leading global industrial services provider for the Oil & Gas market.
Des has more than a decade’s of extensive WHSE experiences for both green and brown field projects across a range of sectors, including Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Power Generation, Civil and Building Construction.

Scott Griffiths
Director - Strategy & Planning

Scott Griffiths
Director - Strategy & Planning
Scott has seven years of experience in solar energy in project development and business planning. He leads projects to improve operational efficiency and growth, including the integration and transition of new businesses and people into Blueleaf Energy. He has originated, developed, and sold 30MW of solar power projects across Japan and SEA with Blueleaf Energy’s predecessor, Conergy.
Prior to Blueleaf Energy was with Deloitte in strategy and operations consulting. He has a degree in systems design engineering, an MBA from INSEAD and an MPA from Harvard Kennedy School.

Martijn van Bemmel
General Counsel

Martijn van Bemmel
General Counsel
Martijn is Blueleaf Energy’s General Counsel since August 2019. He joined Blueleaf Energy in July 2017 from Lightsource, a London-based solar energy developer.
Martijn is a Dutch qualified lawyer, with extensive experience in the renewable energy sector internationally and across technologies, having worked on projects in Europe, Africa and Asia since his first onshore wind energy project in 2008.
