NOVA CABLE ACTIVATES FIRST COMMERCIAL SOLAR NET METERING SYSTEM IN AREA.
Nova Cable’s new 5 KW solar panel system to provide sufficient electrical requirements during work hours and the ability to sell excess electricity back to Consumers Power.
Nova Cable Management Inc. located in Grand Haven, Michigan, recently activated its new 5 KW Mitsubishi solar panel system. The 30-panel system is mounted on the roof of the company’s warehouse located at 905 South Mission in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. The system will be used to offset the building’s electrical costs using renewable green power. In addition, the system is tied to the Consumers Power grid so that when electrical use is low and the solar output is high, Nova will be able to sell its green electrical power back to Consumers.
The system was installed by Nova personnel, local electric contractor Laser Electric, S.U.R. Energy Systems L.C. of Ann Arbor and outside meters by Consumers Power.
Nova plans to use the model as a test subject for future commercial systems. In addition to producing its own power, Nova will receive a 30% tax credit as part of the Federal Solar Tax Credit. Additional benefits include income from the Michigan Renewable Energy Exchange, the benefits of having a shaded roof, added real estate value, as well as a fixed electricity cost for the next 25 years.
Additionally, this project could combine well with the new Michigan House Bill #5218 introduced by Kathleen Law outlined in the “Michigan Renewable Energy Sources Act.” If adopted, this Act would provide revenue back to energy conscious businesses. The aforementioned project would receive $0.65 per kilowatt hour for excess energy output according to this new bill.
